Oh my, I am really behind on refreshing this blog after my
usual summer hiatus: writing does still
happen in the summer, I am told, although I seem to be busy having experiences to
look back on and write about (maybe) on long winter nights.
Much has been happening while I had my head
turned the other way; not all of it good: on September 3 we lost John Ashbery.
Here is a link to an article in the NYT about his passing https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2017/09/03/arts/ap-us-obit-john-ashbery.html?mcubz=0
And here is a link to one of his poems which I think
demonstrates well his language play: https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/new-higher
It will probably be
too late by the time you get this—if you are on the push email list—but Tuesday
night (September 12) the authors of the book The Ledge will be speaking
at CSU. It is about a climbing accident in Mount Rainier in 1992. Just in time for that might be my brother,
the Mt. Rainier park ranger, who may be in town. I don’t know if he will be here in time for
the talk.
In addition to
keeping this blog up to date with worthy writing events North of Longmont and South
of the Wyoming border (see Beth’s picks at right for what I know about and
recommend so far), I hope to write a small post, like this one, once a
week: now there’s something to look
forward to! Stay tuned.
