It is not like poetry doesn’t do summer; but the author of
this blog goes a little quiet when the poetry of flowers and vegetables calls
me to the garden. Thanks to Lorrie Wolfe
for reminding me that poetry thrives in every season. (The reminder came through
her wonderful, timely updates about poetry events of note throughout June and July
and into this month. Lorrie is one of my
most dependable sources of upcoming events!)
At last I have my feet on the ground again (quite literally
since I began the summer by breaking my leg! I am walking—or something like
walking—again now). Of course I don’t
type with my toes, so a tibial fracture shouldn’t have interfered with posts on
this blog. (Don’t get me started on how my hands are perpetually numb from
crutching!) But enough with excuses
already!
I am seeing an uptick in writing events now that autumn is
in sight. One is happening THIS evening
(at the downtown library in Fort Collins).
The other is on Friday, the 21st:
Colorado’s Poet Laureate, Joe Hutchison, will
read at the Loveland Public Library at 7 p.m.
And don’t miss the opportunity to workshop with him the next day (Saturday,
August 22) 10 a.m. to noon.
Both events are free, but registration
for the workshop is encouraged: call Therese
at the Loveland Public Library, 970- 962-2407. Donations will be accepted at
the workshop for future poetry events.
Both encounters with Hutchison are
supported by a partnership of the Library, the Friends of the Loveland Public
Library, the Loveland Museum/Gallery, and the Northern Chapter of Columbine
Poets of Colorado.
