Imagine
this: poems in windows of 60 (yes, SIXTY) Loveland businesses!
Well, you don’t have to imagine it because it is
true!
As part of National Poetry Month,
a dedicated team—lead by Veronica Patterson—has made this happen: poems by
local writers and past poet laureates who have visited Loveland are displayed
in windows of businesses downtown and out in Centerra throughout the month. What a great way to give poetry legs to walk
around in the community!
Come see
for yourself at Night on the Town in Loveland this Friday, April 10! Many local businesses in the downtown area
will be open late and serving treats! The
hot spots to be for poetry this Friday are the Loveland Museum and Gallery and
Artworks.
There
will be a reading at the Loveland Museum (5th and Lincoln), honoring
a some local dynamos of verse: Lynn Kincannon, Evan Oakley and M.D.
Friedman. And Robert Pinsky will make a
virtual appearance through the magic of video recording. Doors open at 6, I think the reading begins
at 6:30.
Also, you
are invited to bring a copy of a favorite published poem to the museum on Friday
(anything from Dr. Seuss to Dr. William Carlos Williams) on 8 ½ x 11 inch
paper. All submissions will become part of a bound volume of Loveland’s
favorite poems.
At
Artworks (Railroad and 3rd), a show featuring visual art in conversation with poetry will be
opening that same night. The poster included here lists the featured artists and poets.
If you can’t
make it to both on Friday, give the museum event priority this week and come back
to Artworks next Friday evening, April 17, for a reading of some of the poems
in the exhibit.
