Danzy Senna


Tonight I went to a presentation by the novelist Danzy Senna (I will admit my ignorance—this is the first I had heard of her).  She gave an excellent talk—I know that it was excellent because now I want to read her books ( Caucasia,  Symptomatic,  and You Are Free--a collection of short stories--). She is a mixed-race Bostonian who writes from her experience with both of those.  She spoke of being “racially homeless” and then brilliantly said:   

“When you feel homeless you can make a home through language.”
