I went a little quiet
there over the holiday—but so did writing events in Northern Colorado.  Now that the New Year is here, it is time to
get back in the saddle, pen in hand. Have you made a resolution for your creative life?  I have discovered it is easier to keep resolutions
if you make them something fun rather than punitive (you know, something like “I
resolve to write for a week in Paris this year”)—so keep that in mind!
Maybe you have
resolved to feed your muse by attending more author events in 2014.  Well, you don’t have to wait long:  this Saturday (January 4) between noon and 6
p.m. you can pick up Folsom's 93 and
have it signed by local author, April Moore, at the Loveland Barnes and Nobel.  This book tells the stories of the 93 men
executed at California's Folsom State Prison from 1895 to 1937.  I met April on New Year’s Eve and am excited
to pick up this book.
I was delighted to run
across the new image you see at the right as it includes a quote (sorry, it is a
little hard to read) from one of my favorite authors:  Ellen Goodman.  I have really missed her since she retired
from writing her regular syndicated column, but it turns out she has been
keeping busy with a new endeavor.  She co-founded
The Conversation Project;  its goal is to
“make it easier to initiate conversations about dying, and to encourage people
to talk now and as often as necessary so that their wishes are known when the
time comes.”   Check it out: http://theconversationproject.org/
Finally, word lovers
that you are, you might enjoy this article about reduplicative expressions (I
think you can read it without being a Visual Thesaurus member, or can get a
trial membership.):  http://www.visualthesaurus.com/cm/ll/fiddle-faddle-the-delight-of-reduplication/
Here’s wishing you all a wonderful 2014 full of many fun words much fruitful reading and writing!
