Word Rant

Let me just say how much I despise the pseudo word “reintroduce.”

Does this word not mean to bring out for the first time?  How can you “re” that?

Don’t we have words that suffice for what people are attempting with “reintroduce”?  How about “bring back”?  What is wrong with “regenerate”?  With wolves/bears/wolverines/Dakota skippers, why not “repopulate”? Or "increase" or "bring back" (oh, I already said that).

Speaking for words, for those of you who love them, or are just curious, check out this Terry Gross interview with Kory Stamper, lexicographer for Merriam-Webster!

  1. Hi, me again! By the way, neither Merriam-Webster nor dictionary.com have a definition for "re-introduce." The former jumps to "re," the latter jumps to "introduce."
