‘The poems in Cirque
& Sky are inspired by the Colorado landscape and the landscapes of the
Rocky Mountain West. We take the specular mountains, the ever changing sky, and
our immediate access to the great outdoors for granted. We encounter coyotes,
foxes, hawks and vultures even in our suburban neighborhoods. We are surrounded
by natural beauty everyday. The first poem in book was written three autumns
ago after spending the day in an ancient aspen forest on the Dallas Divide
where the world seemed golden. It was like a floodgate, and I am still writing
pastoral poetry praising the beauty of Colorado.” says poet Kathleen Willard.
