It isn’t
every day that you get to hear from a writer who is also a jazz pianist and a
physician, but this coming Friday (January 27) is such a day.
Ethan
Canin will read from his work, including his latest novel, A Doubter’s
Almanac, at 7 p.m. in the Griffin Hall of CSU’s University Center for the Arts (UCA)
on Remington Street. The event is part
of the CSU English Department’s Creative Writing reading series in partnership
with Off the Hook Arts whose artistic director Bruce Adolphe will host the
evening.
Canin is a highly regarded
novelist and short story writer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, and Esquire. Several of his short stories have been the basis of Hollywood movies: Blue River, The Emperor's Club, Beautiful Ohio and The Year of Getting to Know us. He
is the F. Wendell Miller Professor of English at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
In
addition to his reading, Canin will discuss creativity in writing and music and
will take questions from the audience.
Tickets to
the event are available through the UCA Ticket Office.
