“Ferity: it’s a good word. Use it.”

So said Gary Snyder on Wednesday evening at CSU.  We can all hope to have so much grace when we are 84 years old.  He charmed with some old favorites which were requested (evocative of a rock concert) and NEW work slated for publication in the coming year under the title This Present Moment.

Kudos to the University Center for the Arts staff at CSU who made a quick--ok, as quick as they probably  could have--change of venue to accommodate the much-larger than expected audience that showed up.  They were sailors caught between Scylla and Charybdis:  disappoint over 250 additional people who could not be squeezed into the Organ Hall or delay the reading by moving the 300 already seated into the larger space which would accommodate all (but still with barely a seat to spare).

Then there was Cheryl Strayed at the Lincoln Center last night—so witty and wise—more about that in a later post.

Now on to the next big reading:  Alexandra Fuller on Sunday night in Loveland.  The Loveland Loves to Read selection by Fuller, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, chronicles her childhood in Rhodesia—now Zimbabwe.  Hope to see you there!  7 p.m. Rialto Theatre, downtown Loveland. You won’t get a better evening for only $5!
