I
have never had to report such sad news before on this blog. This summer, good friend of the CSU writing
community, Keith Jentsch, was severely beaten by unknown assailants
while investigating late-night fireworks in his Fort Collins neighborhood.
After significant time in intensive care and multiple surgeries, he is still
hospitalized, now in Fair Condition, but is expected to face a long recovery.
Keith
earned his MFA in Art at CSU and is the Programs and Exhibitions Coordinator
for the University Art Museum. He has
been the key person responsible for maintaining the gallery for the CSU
creative writing events frequently held there.
The
heartening news is that a number of writers and artists in the community have
set up a benefit reading and silent auction with all proceeds going to Keith’s
long-term care.
This
event will take place beginning at 6 p.m. this coming Friday, Sept. 12 at the
Downtown Artery in Fort Collins: 252
Linden Street. Readers will include Dan Beachy-Quick, Sasha Steensen, Matthew
Cooperman, Aby Kaupang and Grant Souders.
While
the beating threatens to take away all my faith in humanity, this benefit
restores my hope. Please be part of
it.
If
you can’t make it to the event, but would like to contribute something to the
fund set up for Keith, visit https://fundly.com/keith-jentzsch.
