Some great writing advice comes from a perhaps-unlikely source:  computer programmer Paul Graham (okay, computer programming is a type of writing!)  Check it out:  "Writing, Briefly."

According to Graham’s web site (which is surprisingly un-inspiring), he is a programmer, writer, and investor. In 1995, he and a partner started Viaweb, which was acquired by Yahoo in 1998 (it became Yahoo Store). In 2005 he was part of a team which launched Y Combinator, a new type of startup incubator which has subsequently funded over 450 startups, including Dropbox, Airbnb, Stripe, and Reddit.

Graham started publishing essays on paulgraham.com in 2001 and is the author of several books.

He has an AB from Cornell and a PhD in Computer Science from Harvard.  As if that weren’t enough, he studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence.

(I hope that you enjoy the creative hodge-podge (great word!) of fonts on this page:  'not sure how to correct that and don't have time just now!)
