Quite the line-up for local author day tomorrow (Saturday,
Nov 9) at Jax Outdoor in Fort Collins
11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including John Fielder at 1:00.
And speaking of Jax, I heard a presentation this week about copyright and trademark that explained why Jax Fish House (new kid on the block restaurant in Fort Collins) can get away with taking the name of Jax Outdoor. For trademark purposes, businesses/products fall into 34 different classes, and infringements can occur only WITHIN any one class: the Fish House is in the restaurant class and the original Jax is in the outdoor gear category. So, under the law: no conflict. But in practicality, I think it is damn annoying. Jax Outdoor is a long time fixture (I mean long-time--since 1953!--that is more than MY entire life). I think no one should tread on their name.
So, get out to the local author event and support Jax Outdoor. Then, if you must, have dinner after at Jax Fish House, I suppose it is a very nice place. I will probably go elsewhere.
