I was sorry to miss the reading by George Kalamaras and Mary
Ann Cain (both of whom I knew as graduate students—I think—when I was an
undergraduate at CSU). They read last week,
October 17, at Wolverine Farm Press Bookstore.
If any of you went and have comments, please reply to this post with

I WAS fortunate enough, however, to attend the
recent reading/musical event in which Veronica Patterson took part. I was particularly stunned by the piece she
wrote into which she wove lines from Beethoven’s secret suicide note (gratefully,
he never used it!). And the musicians' commentary wonderfully deepened the experience.
Look for another music-integrated reading coming up on Tuesday,
November 5, 7:30 p.m. “Uncanny Valley”
is a performance of piano, spoken word, electronics by Oni &
Woodward. It is part of the CSU Creative
Writing Program Reading Series. See
details in “Beth’s Picks” to the right. And
the night before that Patterson joins Mary Crow and Bob King in a reading at Bas Bleu.
Another great event I attended this last week was the
reading by Camille Dungy and Todd Mitchell:
thank you, Camille, and your family, for coming to Fort Collins to live
and work; and thank you, Todd, for taking on the daunting topic of teen suicide
in your new book Backwards!
