Aestethetica, Dublin Review, and Mason Road Contests

CALL FOR ENTRIES: AESTHETICA CREATIVE WORKS COMPETITION

The 2011 Aesthetica Creative Works Competition is now open for entries! Aesthetica Magazine is inviting all artists, photographers, writers and poets to submit their work into the Creative Works Competition and is particularly keen to see student work well-represented. Now in its fourth year, the competition is dedicated to celebrating and championing creative talent across the disciplines and welcomes entries from students working in both poetry and short fiction!

• The Competition has three categories, Artwork & Photography, Poetry and Fiction.
• Winners and finalists are published in the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual.
• Winners of each category receive £500 (apx. $812) prize money plus other prizes.
• Entry to the Creative Works Competition is £10 (apx. $16).
• The entry fee allows the submission of 2 images, 2 poems or 2 short stories.
• The deadline for submissions is the 31st August 2011.

Flash Fiction Contest
The Dublin Review of Books is pleased to announce its second Flash Fiction Contest. The prize will bring recognition to distinguished flash fiction writing from within Ireland and around the world. The winning entry will receive 1,000 Euro. Second and third place will each receive 100 Euro. The top three stories will appear in The Dublin Review of Books.
Final judging will be made by authors James Ryan, Eilis Ni Dhuibhne and an editor from the drb.
GUIDELINES:
• Submit up to 3 flash fiction stories of no more than 500 words apiece. Work must be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are not accepted. Copyright will remain with winning authors. The drb reserves the rights to use winning entries up to one year after publication.
• Manuscripts must include a cover letter containing name, address, e-mail address and/or telephone number, and the title of each work.
• Entry fee is 10 Euro per story. Payment can be made through our PayPal account when submitting an entry.
• Deadline for submissions is June 5, 2011 at 5 pm Dublin time. Entries received after this date will not be read. Only winning authors will be contacted.
• Winning stories will be announced September 30, 2011.
• Writers may submit through our online form (see details at www.drb.ie).
• Submissions may also be made via email. Please include surname and first name in the subject line. If submitting via email, please paste stories in the body of the email AND send as an attachment in one of the following formats:

Creative Writing Contest

Mason’s Road is now sponsoring our first $1,000 Creative Writing Contest for our next theme, “arc” – the rise and fall of dramatic tension within a piece that draws the reader in and keeps him or her engaged – along with general submissions. There is no entry fee for general submissions, but we do have a reading fee of $15 for the contest, to be judged by a guest writer TBA. Outstanding Literary Essay Awards

The Department's Literature Committee announces the Outstanding Literary Essay Awards, which recognize outstanding critical writing and interpretive work in literary studies. Applicants must be registered graduate students
or undergraduate English majors. Awards of $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place will be offered at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Winners will be honored at the English Department Awards
Reception on Monday, April 25, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. in the LSC North Ballroom.

Submission Guidelines: Students should submit an essay that represents their best critical or interpretive work in literary studies. Undergraduate essays should be no longer than 15 pages and graduate essays should be no longer than 20 pages. Shorter papers are also welcome. Only one submission is allowed per student. Submission deadline is Friday, April 8, 2011, at 4:00 p.m.

Please submit TWO clean copies, with no name, address, or instructor's comments. Only a title and page numbers should appear. Include with your essay a separate cover letter with your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, university ID number, and title of your essay. Also indicate the course for which the essay was written (if it was composed for a course) and the professor who taught the course. Indicate whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student at CSU.
